What is the study about?
You are invited to participate in a study about paediatric telepractice speech pathology services delivered during COVID-19. We hope to learn about parent and caregiver perspectives of telepractice speech pathology services, including the barriers and enablers to successful engagement, and the factors that promote acceptance and sustained use.
Do I have to participate?
Being part of this study is voluntary. If you want to be part of the study, we ask that you read the information below carefully. You can read the information below and decide at the end if you do not want to participate. If you decide not to participate this won’t affect your relationship with La Trobe University.
Who is being asked to participate?
You have been asked to participate because:
1) You are a parent/caregiver of a child who received paediatric speech pathology services via telepractice during the COVID-19 pandemic
2)You were based in Australia when you accessed telepractice speech pathology services
What will I be asked to do?
If you want to take part in this study, we will ask you to complete an online survey. The survey consists of 8 sections. There are 23 questions to answer and 26 statements to rate. Questions are a combination of closed questions (tick box, yes/no, ranking) and open questions (i.e. short answer). It will take approximately 20 minutes of your time to complete the survey. At the end of the survey, you will be asked to indicate whether you consent to being contacted to further discuss your responses in the context of an online focus group discussion. Both Part One (online survey) and Part Two (online focus group discussion) are completely voluntary.
What are the benefits?
Participation in this research may have no direct benefit to you. However, there are expected benefits more broadly in terms of understanding the characteristics, practicalities, challenges and benefits of telepractice speech pathology services. We expect that the findings will help us to identify the competencies, supports and infrastructure that are required for speech-language pathologists to successfully implement telepractice services.
What are the risks?
With any study there are (1) risks we know about, (2) risks we don’t know about, and (3) risks we don’t expect. If you experience something that you aren’t sure about, please contact us immediately so we can discuss the best way to manage your concerns.
